I am beginning a series on cards and combinations of cards that I find interesting, and hope that
you do, too. I plan to have different segments. The names may change, but my working
categories are Unsung Heroes, Pairs and Combos, Mirrors, and Fun Cards I Dare You to Play.
More categories may be added if I feel like it. This is all a fun experiment for right now.
Kicking things off, this is Episode 1, I guess, is going to be in the Unsung Hero category. This
category is about unearthing some of the hidden gem cards that may not see a lot of play, but
probably should. I’m not going to try to convince you of the virtues of adding Storehouse or
Three Woes to your deck. I want to look at some of the unsung heroes of this game, cards that,
when deck-building, almost get passed by without a second thought.
My first entry in this series focuses on Letter to the Hebrews. This is card #4 from the Cloud of
Witnesses set.
I love this card and I am the only person I have ever seen play it. It is an artifact, and it’s ability
states: “On activation, you may discard a cloud card from hand to search deck for a Hebrews
card.” You know what a Hebrews card is? The Second Coming! We have enough cards to tutor
Son of God, but very few to get The Second Coming. This is the most consistent card I have
found to do that. Okay, maybe the Legacy Rare Search which can dig out any card, but you
have to be playing green to use that.
There are 70 unique cloud cards, not counting anything in the new TTC set. Depending on the
deck you are building, it is not hard to include a few cloud cards in your deck. Keep Letter to
the Hebrews face down in you Artifact pile until you are ready to snag The Second Coming.
While this isn’t a Pairs and Combos episode, here’s a freebie: David, Heart After God can tutor
the K deck Son of God. Bounce him, then use The Letter to the Hebrews, discard David HAG,
and get TSC. Boom! 2 souls, right there.
Is this artifact using valuable space in your deck? Yes. But for 20% of the winning points, I think
